The Company's primary focus is the development and commercialization of a recombinant form of the therapeutic protease inhibitor alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT) for both human and veterinary indications. AAT plays a vital role in the inflammatory processes of many lung and skin disorders, and in many cases has been proven as an effective alternative to conventional steroid use.
In addition to AlphaMed's AAT development efforts, the Company has developed a strong patent position utilizing Cromolyn Sodium-based products applied topically. Cromolyn is in great supply and currently marketed by pharmaceutical companies as an FDA approved treatment for asthma in young adults, for nasal congestion and eye inflammation. With over three decades of safety and efficacy data, Cromolyn is a pharmaceutical without many of the severe side effects associated with steroid treatments.
